The Chancellor Rishi Sunak recently announced the Green Homes Grant Scheme to help British residents improve the efficiency of their homes.
What is the scheme?
The scheme allows homeowners and landlords to apply for vouchers from a £2 billion Green Homes Grant Scheme pot to allow people to improve their home and make them more energy-efficient. This scheme also aims to create more local jobs.
How much could you get?
- Some households could get up to two-thirds of their energy efficiency measures up to the value of £5,000
- In lower-income households, the government will cover the full cost up to the value of £10,000
How will the scheme work?
The scheme will launch around September 2020, homeowners will need to submit an application form for the recommended energy efficiency measures, along with their intended, approved local supplier. Suppliers will also need to apply to ensure that they are compliant.
What will the scheme cover?
Full details on the scheme are yet to be released but from what we know at the moment it clearly states that the grant can only be used to improve energy efficiency. Home Improvements that we expect will be included are
- Insulation
- Boiler replacements
- Windows & Doors
- Solar panels
We are still waiting for clarification from the government whether this will cover upgrades to existing energy-saving improvements.
We will provide updates as soon as we know more, stay safe everyone!
